Harper announces Churchill airport funding

It's Harper's first stop on a five-day tour of the Arctic, his fifth as prime minister.

Harper says helping northern communities grow and prosper benefits all Canadians.

The government is spending $13.4 million on upgrades to the airport in the city known as the polar bear capital of the world.

Harper's tour comes three days after the government unveiled a rejigged Arctic foreign policy which keeps the focus on staking Canada's claim to the region.
