Sikorsky

Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company, is a world leader in helicopter design, manufacture and service. Founded by aerospace pioneer Igor Sikorsky in 1923, the company today employs 13,000 people globally, with headquarters in Stratford, Connecticut. Sikorsky helicopters currently are operated in 40 nations. Military aircraft include the BLACK HAWK and SEAHAWK helicopters, and the CH-53K heavy-lift aircraft. Commercial helicopters include the S-76 family, and the larger S-92 helicopter, currently the oil industry’s workhorse helicopter for offshore transport. Sikorsky continues to innovate: its X2 co-axial rotor design is doubling the speed and maneuverability of today’s helicopters, with two prototype X2 military helicopters now in flight testing. Other developmental programs include autonomous flight and systems intelligence.

At the Aerial Firefighting Conference, Sikorsky is highlighting the new-generation S-70i FIREHAWK helicopter using United Rotorcraft’s aerial firefighting system, which includes a 1,000-gallon belly water tank and extended landing gear; a 600-pound rescue hoist, and NVG compatible digital cockpit. The multi-role FIREHAWK can carry up to 13 firefighters and their gear, drop 1,000-gallons of water with precision, and perform emergency ground crew extraction; performs at dash speed up to 140 knots; can perform manual and computer-controlled water drop patterns; and up to 4g turns to forcefully expel water against a burning slope; has greater climb-out power margin than the previous model for increased safety.
